Neurosurgery is a surgical specialty that deals with a variety of neurological and meningeal problems in both adults and children that call for a neurosurgeon’s attention, intervention, or opinion. It generally deals with really serious situations and complex and challenging procedures.

General neurosurgery includes most cases of neurological injury (such as head and spine injuries) and emergency cases such as hemorrhagic stroke and acute hydrocephalus.
The educational goals and objectives

  1. Offer the best possible current training, and guarantee that trainees have acquired the necessary skills and abilities.
  2. Focus on the results of training. To easily transition into solo practice, candidates must show that they are competent in key areas of neurosurgery.
  3. Hasten learning and skill development through targeted, modern teaching strategies, regular exposure to cases, and a healthy balance of supervision and independence.
  4. Involve the trainees in community health projects relating to their speciality that will influence how they practice in the future.

Tasks and Responsibilities of Scientific Councils

  • Preparation, reviewing and updating the scientific curricula in medical specialties regularly.
  • Supervision the approved training program.

  • Full supervision of the exam process in all its stages.

  • Defining the requirements for recognition of the training centers.

  • Defining the list of scientific references for specialization.

  • Conducting academic educational activities, conferences, courses and workshops.

In case you are new graduated : You can register on the specialty by following the announcements New residents issued by the main identifiers of the SBOMS on Facebook or on the website.


If you are registered before as residents : you can go to the nearest office of SBOMS ( Idlib or Turkey Office)

When can I do the primary exam?

You can do the first written exam at the end of the first year for the 4-year specialties (such as internal medicine and pediatric) , and the end of the second year for the specialties of 5-6 year residency (such as surgery).

When can I do the final exam?

You can do the final written examination after the end of the training period according to each specialization and pass the primary written examination and requires the passage of at least one full academic year between the primary written examination and the final exam .

When are the specialty exams held at SBOMS ?
