Residency Doctors’ Selection Competition for Specialization – 2023 Course Announcement.

The Syrian Board of Medical Specialties (SBOMS) has released details of the Reconstructive Residency Selection Competition for doctors who wish to specialize in accredited hospitals. Applicants must meet the conditions outlined below to be considered for training.

Requirements for participating in the competition:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in medicine is required with a minimum 60% grade from Syrian or foreign universities after passing the national exam.
  2. Individuals who graduated from universities outside the liberated areas are required to have obtained their certificate before 2018.
  3. The applicant’s age should not exceed 35 years in the specialty of internal medicine, orthopedics, and general surgery.
  4. To be eligible for Nephrology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Hematology for adult patients, an applicant must possess a specialization certificate in Internal Medicine or have completed a two-year training program in that field and also pass the initial examination.
  5. To be eligible for Pediatric Hematology, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Pediatric Cardiology, an applicant must have a specialization certificate in Pediatrics.
  6. To be eligible for the specialty of intensive care in adults, an applicant must have a certificate of specialization in Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, or Emergency Medicine or have completed a training period of at least two years in these specialties and also pass the initial examination.
  7. Emergency medicine candidates with at least one year of clinical work post-graduation are given priority. Financial compensation is offered due to a shortage in salary for resident doctors.
  8. Doctors in residency programs must be full-time students and follow program standards.
  9. To ensure proper training, it is important to strictly follow the accredited hospital’s periodic training plan approved by the scientific council.
  10. The competition applicant must have resided in the liberated areas since 2020 AD or earlier.
  11. Passing the medical language ability exam and the computer skills exam, the date of which will be determined later.

Documents required:

  1. Fill out the application form, which the doctor obtains from the accredited centers, or it can be downloaded from the official website.
  2. Two recent colored personal photos, size 5×4.
  3. A certified copy of the university degree, including the Grade Point Average and Grade. Foreign certificates must be translated into Arabic and duly certified, along with a document of passing the national exam.
  4. A graduation notice with the GPA and grade recorded for those whose graduation decision has not been issued yet.
  5. A certified copy of the specialization certificate or the training termination document for sub-specialty applicants.
  6. Certificate of success in the initial exam for residents who have not completed their specialization and applicants for Nephrology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Hematology for adult and adult intensive care.
  7. A personal proof document: a copy of the identity card, a newly extracted civil registry from the civil registry, or a copy of the passport.
  8. A record is required that shows the periods of past practice in medical facilities, specifically in the area of specialization. This should include the duration of employment, the names of supervising physicians, and means of communication with them.
  9. A written commitment to pursue education without any financial impact.
  10. Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of 25 US dollars or its equivalent in Turkish currency for the competition process.

Accredited centers for application:

Either the doctor or their legal representative (with a certified power of attorney) can submit the necessary documents to one of the Syrian Board of Medical Specialties’ offices.

  1. Idlib office – located in Idlib Health Directorate – second floor.
  2. Northern Aleppo Countryside Office – located in the city of Marea.

Application deadlines:

  • Applications are submitted from Tuesday, 5-30-2023 until the end of official working hours from Monday, 5-6-2023, including Saturday, from 9 am to 3 pm.
  • Requests submitted outside the designated time frame will not be accepted.

Notice:

Applicant doctors are differentiated based on whether they meet the criteria for differentiation, which include:

Passing the interview exam
Annual evaluation of the resident doctor in the sub-specialties
  • Exceptional physicians who graduated from universities in the liberated areas or from the Syrian Board of Medical Specialties (in sub-specialties) are given preference.
  • The first 3-6 months of a specialty is a trial period to assess a doctor’s dedication.
