David Nott Foundation has completed with coordination and cooperation the Syrian Board of Medical Specialization SBOMS, a five-days Hostile Environment Surgical Training (HEST) course in Gaziantep.
Twenty-seven supervising and residents doctors from several specialties participated in the course from 8 training hospitals in northwestern Syria, which covered several topics in HEST surgical techniques:
- Ballistics
- Primary and secondary survey
- Damage control
- Cardio-thoracic trauma
- Vascular surgery
- Head and neck trauma
- Pediatric surgery
- Abdominal trauma
- Orthopedic surgery
- Plastic surgery
- Trauma in obstetrics and gynecology
The trainees also underwent practical training on:
- Chest drain
- Tracheotomy
- Craniotomy
- Z cosmetic sutures
- Suturing damaged vessels
- Dealing with kidney, heart, liver and lung injuries.
In addition to chest, skull, and abdominal opening techniques in Hostile Environment traumatic injuries depending on the condition, using manikin training simulation.
The foundation of David Nott has accredited three Syrian doctors from the Scientific Councils of the Syrian Board of Medical Specialties SBOMS as trainers, and hopes to extend this recognized faculty in the future.
